Upper Body Strength: The Superset Structure Behind Most of My Workouts
Upper Body Strength is one of my favorite things to train. These moves leave no stone unturned, as the variety of exercises is sure to hit every major and minor muscle group in the upper body. The low repetitions allows for increased resistance, resulting in increased strength. I also like the emphasis on grip strength (which has been linked to increased longevity), barbell rows, pull ups, and hanging leg raises, in this workout.
When I'm doing a workout like this I usually rest 60 - 90 seconds between each superset to keep my heart rate elevated and turn my upper body workout into a total body burner. This workout is similar to what you'll find in Functional Strength, Upper/Lower Split, and even Bite Size Strength (minus the kettlebell portion). Most of my workouts follow this structure. 2 - 3 supersets of effective and efficient exercises that build total body strength. It's a structure that has worked for me for decades.
